Athens is situated in Greece. There you will find the Acropolis, built originally as a religious sanctuary, it is the city’s biggest attraction. In the background is Mt. Lycabettus, the highest point in Athens, with steps leading all the way to the top. When you reach the top you will find a small chapel and also a restaurant so you can eat and drink whilst admiring the view. One of the most interesting monuments is The Parthenon, which was dedicated to Athena, the patron goddess of Athens.
Situated next to the Acropolis are the National Gardens and the Temple of Zeus as well as Hadrian’s Arch. You can also visit the Plaka, which has many restaurants and small shops.
The National Archaeological Museum, the biggest museum in Greece, has some of the best archaeological pieces in the world, holding many impressive collections, including sculptures, pottery and bronzes from ancient Greece.
You should also visit ancient Agora; this is a place to see some interesting temples such as the Temple of Hehaistos as well as other statues and altars. The Agora Museum is worth a visit too; it is this place which democracy actually came about.
