19 may 2009 - Victoria Falls in Africa
On the Zambezi River, which borders on Zambia and Zimbabwe is the magnificent Victoria Falls, two kilometres wide and over 100 meters high. In the 1800’s the Kololo tribe living in the area, named it ‘the smoke that thunders’.

Two main vantage points, which offer visitors the greatest views, is the Knife edge bridge that looks over the Eastern Cataract and the Main Falls as well as the Boiling Pot where the river meets up to the Batoka Gorge. There is also the Falls bridge and the Lookout Tree. The bridge offers a great view of the gorge on one side and through the falls on the other.

You can get an even better view by air. Small flights and helicopter rides are available; the pilot will take you along the breath taking sight of the Zambezi River in all its glory.

If you prefer to walk, there are well-marked footpaths through the nearby rain forests where you can also reach the Knife Edge Bridge.
If you venture further you will reach Livingstone Island, named after David Livingstone, the place from where he first spotted the Falls.

Nearby is the Mukuni Victoria Craft Village where you will find interesting curios, carvings in stone wood or green malachite. You should also make time to visit the Victoria Falls Museum where you can learn how the falls where formed. It is built over an excavation site that has found evidence of early hominids that lived there over 2.5 million years ago.

Other places of interest in the area are the Mosi O Tunya National Park, situated along upper Zambezi, a place to spot various game and other wildlife. There is also the Mukuni Village, an authentic tribal village.

It is a breath taking and once in a lifetime experience that you will never forget and be glad to go back to again and again.
