evacuations.mobi allows anyone in the USA with a cellphone access to current hurricane conditions from NOAA, even when other forms of communication fail. As well as maps, the mobile site shows directions for evacuation routes, links to coastal states emergency sites, live radar links from NOAA for several coastal regions and more. The site has two versions, a standard mobile site and a version for Smartphones.
According to Mark Bennett, founder of Idea Earth the company behind evacuations.mobi, "It's often a difficult task to get information in an emergency situation when electricity is down . . . Our free public service site is also helpful for those in traffic who are looking for alternate escape routes. Our mobile maps and directions, provided by Pilot.mobi, are just the ticket when you're stuck in traffic with or without a navigation system."
