In the Asia Pacific mobile internet users are forecast to reach three billion over the next few years, with average penetration rates 20 times higher than fixed line Internet connections in many countries.

Research from eMarketer suggests Asia Pacific mobile advertising will reach US$6.9 billion in value 2012, with the area contributing around 36 per cent of global mobile advertising spending.

Jeff Merkel, managing director of AdMob for Asia Pacific and Latin America, "Mobile Internet traffic in Asia has grown twice as fast as Europe. Asia has seen an increase in impressions from 629 million to 2.2 billion. We see smart phone adoption driving a surprisingly high share of mobile Web usage in this region, with Thailand having the highest number of smart phones closely followed by Singapore and Hong Kong."
